Wiegand 26 vs 34: Which Output Standard Does Your Access System Need?

May 15, 2026 4 min read By David Chen

The Standard 26-Bit Wiegand Format

Wiegand 26 (H10301) is the universal open industry format consisting of 1 leading even parity bit, 8 facility code bits (0–255), 16 card number bits (0–65,535), and 1 trailing odd parity bit. It is supported by nearly 100% of legacy access control panels.

When to Upgrade to Wiegand 34

Wiegand 34 provides a larger 32-bit data field for facilities exceeding 65,000 users or needing expanded facility codes. EASCO access control terminals support switchable Wiegand 26, 34, 66, RS485, and OSDP v2 via web management interface.
